This sundial was made for a church in Kent by a member of a well known family of local clock makers.
It was mounted on a wooden pillar but disappeared sometime in the 1970’s, the pillar survives. I
returned the dial to the church with the expectation that it would be re-united with the wooden post
which is probably the only 17th. century dial post in existence. I suggested that it be set up, on its
original pillar, inside the church, with a spotlight to demonstrate its method of use. Against my advice
they have mounted it on a concrete post in the grounds, where it will deteriorate or disappear once more.
